Call for 2006 Interns

SPJ-Hawaii seeking applicants for summer journalism internships

(Honolulu, Jan. 17, 2006) – Twelve paid summer internships are being offered in 2006 through the Society of Professional Journalists-Hawaii Chapter in print and broadcast journalism and public relations.

An applicant must be a college student who is a Hawaii resident, enrolled in an institution of higher learning in the state of Hawaii, or a graduate of a high school in Hawaii who is now attending college either in Hawaii or elsewhere. Applicants will be considered only if they will have completed their sophomore year of college by June 2006.

The following full-time SPJ internships will consist of 10 weeks of work at 40 hours a week and will earn $3,250:

• Honolulu Star-Bulletin (daily newspaper)
• Maui News (daily newspaper) for Maui residents
• Pacific Business News (weekly business newspaper)
• Honolulu magazine (monthly magazine)
• Hawaii Business magazine (monthly business magazine)
• Island Scene (Hawaii Medical Service Association magazine)
• Trade Publishing Co. (business magazines and newsletters)
• Alexander & Baldwin Inc. (corporate public relations)
• Bright Light Marketing Group (public relations firm)

The following part-time SPJ internships will consist of 8 weeks of work at 27 hours a week and will earn $1,750:

• KGMB Channel 9 (television news)
• KITV Channel 4 (television news)
• KHNL Channel 8 (television news)
• Hawaii Public Radio (radio news)

Applicants must submit an application form, letter of introduction, samples of work, and a copy of a college transcript. Application forms are available on the SPJ-Hawaii Web site at www.hawaiispj.org.
