The family of Wally Zimmermann, longtime news director who fathered many television news reporters'
careers, will hold a memorial for him starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, at the Hawaii Kai Boat Ramp
at the Maunalua Bay Beach Park.

At 5:30 p.m., the family will take canoes into Maunalua Bay to scatter Wally's ashes privately.

The family asks people not to bring flowers or lei.

Wally died Jan. 5 at his home near Nashville, Tennessee.

Because of Wally's contribution to journalism in Hawaii, the Hawaii Chapter of the Society of
Professional Journalists has named its television student internships after Wally. They are now
known as the Wally Zimmermann Internships in Television Broadcast Journalism.

The first two Zimmermann internships will be at KHON2-TV and Hawaii News Now in 2017.

The family has set up the Wally Zimmermann Memorial Fund at the Hawaii Community Foundation,
which is accepting tax-deductible donations. The fund is exclusively to support the Hawaii Chapter
SPJ internships in Wally's name.

Checks can be written to Hawaii Community Foundation. Please write The Wally Zimmermann Memorial Fund in
the note section of the check.
